Don't just walk—alternate between walking and running: one minute of running followed by one minute of walking. This builds your conditioning gradually and effectively.

Start with ten minutes and increase it each time you walk your dog. Try running for two minutes then walking for one. Track your active minutes to run more and longer over time.
