Santé proudly co-sponsors Team Continu, the skating team led by Olympic champion Marianne Timmer. As a former elite athlete and team leader, Marianne shares daily tips to help you stay fit with Santé.
Marianne: 'In my experience, adults aged 18 to 30 often exercise less. There are two main reasons. First, sports are typically group-based in childhood. Kids eagerly join clubs, but once they tire of it, they quit—and rarely restart on their own.
Second, life gets busier. This age group faces intense demands from studies, work, relationships, moving out, cohabitation, marriage, and starting families. Exercise often drops off the priority list. Yet, daily physical activity benefits everyone immensely.
Between 30 and 60, activity levels usually rise again. With personal lives stabilizing and education complete, people recognize exercise's value—often triggered by weight gain or a health check. Regular movement relieves stress, manages weight, and counters age-related decline.
Her Tip! When you stop exercising, your fitness plummets: long walks feel impossible, and without adjusting your diet, weight gain follows. Aim for sports at least twice a week. If that's not feasible, commit to a daily walk or bike ride.
