'I want to exercise—now what?'
Once you've committed to getting active, opt for a sport you genuinely enjoy and can maintain long-term. Unsure where to start? Begin with accessible options like walking, running, or cycling. These can spark your passion or lead you to even better fits down the road.
Three Types of Sports to Consider
Marianne breaks it down into three categories: team sports, individual sports, and semi-individual sports.
1. Team Sports
Team sports involve competing and training as part of a group, where success—and challenges—are shared. You grow together, support one another, and achieve collective goals. Popular examples include football, hockey, and volleyball.
2. Individual Sports
These are pursued solo, without a direct opponent during training or performance. While you might train with others, results are yours alone. Think swimming or cycling.
3. Semi-Individual Sports
Here, you compete individually but against an opponent. Tennis is a prime example, blending personal skill with direct rivalry.
Which type appeals to you most?
