Why Veterinarians Strongly Discourage Decorating Your Pet's Claws

Social media has transformed how we chase popularity, with pets often becoming the stars for likes and shares. To make your cat stand out amid endless cute photos, some owners are giving them trendy claw 'pedicures' using sticker-like nail patches instead of polish. While traditional nail polish poses toxicity risks, these adhesives are no safer—and veterinarians unanimously advise against them.

A Cruel and Harmful Practice

Susie Nee, chief veterinarian at The Vet, a leading UK pet health provider, told The Independent: "Cats can't avoid using their claws—it's completely unnatural to restrict them. This leads to stress and other health issues, especially for males who become particularly distressed when unable to behave naturally."

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, London's renowned animal rescue, labels this trend 'cruel.' They treated a cat whose claws were encrusted with red nail patches, requiring general anesthesia for removal. As experienced animal welfare experts, we urge pet owners to prioritize their animals' well-being over fleeting trends—pets aren't accessories.
