Heading to the gym doesn't guarantee weight loss. Research reveals that 25% of people actually gain weight soon after they begin exercising.
Compensation
Among gym-goers, 39% burn just 300 calories per session. That's easily offset by a glass of wine (190 calories) or a KitKat bar (233 calories). Nearly 49% even exercise preemptively to justify later indulgences. Those post-workout drinks or treats feel less guilty when you've earned them, right?
Control
As the study's spokesperson notes, many turn to exercise for a sense of control they lack over eating habits. If a big meal is on the horizon, why not burn off some calories beforehand?
No Need for Discouragement
That said, don't let this deter you. Exercise remains incredibly beneficial for health and a great way to clear your mind.
