Yvonne: What would you do if you could turn your passion into support for a vital cause? Sign up, of course!
I'm Yvonne, 29, and cycling is my passion. When I first learned about the Zuiderzee Classic in 2012, I couldn't join—but I knew 2013 was my year. For the uninitiated, this is a challenging bike tour that raises funds for colon cancer research through the Maag Lever Darm Foundation. Colon cancer ranks among the top three most common cancers, claiming 13 lives daily in the Netherlands.
I committed to the full 220km distance on my road bike—a deliberate choice over the 60km or 120km options. I want my sponsors to witness a true challenge, showcasing the effort behind every pedal stroke.
220km is no small feat, so I'm not going solo. My teammates, Jacomina and Eline, will join for camaraderie and support (and yes, it makes it easier too!). I'm recruiting more women to ride with us. With this great weather, I've logged solid miles already, but now it's time to ramp up frequency and distance through intensive training.
Over the coming weeks, I'll update you on my progress. 220km will test my limits, but I'm determined to make a difference against colon cancer.
