Rare Superfetation Miracle: Australian Woman Conceives Two Daughters 10 Days Apart

A rare medical phenomenon led to a double miracle for Kate Hill, an Australian woman with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS, also known as Stein-Leventhal syndrome), a condition that often causes infertility and affects the ovaries. She gave birth to two daughters conceived just 10 days apart.

The Phenomenon of Superfetation

After years of dreaming about motherhood, Kate underwent hormone treatment to boost her chances of conceiving. The treatment succeeded remarkably: following a single sexual intercourse, her husband's sperm remained viable long enough to fertilize one egg initially and a second egg 10 days later. This ultra-rare occurrence, known as superfetation, has been documented only about 10 times worldwide.

The girls, Charlotte and Olivia, were born on the same day and are now 10 months old. Though delivered together, they are not twins—differing in height, weight, and blood type—and both are thriving.
