Our gut is as sensitive as our skin, reacting swiftly to stress and changes. Emotional upheavals can cause constipation in some and diarrhea in others. Post-holidays and pre-school year, it's common to feel off-kilter. As experienced herbalists recommend, turn to time-tested plants to soothe and restore digestive balance.
1/ For constipation: Brew a herbal tea with hibiscus flowers, mallow, and lemon balm. Infuse for 10 minutes and sip a liter spaced throughout the day for a month. This potent blend works deeply to fortify your system for lasting relief. Effective alternatives: flax and psyllium seeds, boldo, artichoke, or fumitory teas, plus a spoonful of pollen on an empty stomach to rebalance gut flora.
2/ For transient diarrhea: Loosestrife. Infuse a teaspoon in a cup of hot water for 10 minutes. Proven options: dried blueberry berries, bramble, blackcurrant juice, or lady's mantle.
3/ For bloating: Star anise. Post-meal, infuse 3-4 stars in boiling water for 10 minutes. For stress-induced issues, valerian or hawthorn teas shine, as do Roman chamomile or basil essential oils. Vegetable charcoal offers quick support too.
4/ For heartburn: Licorice—if blood pressure is normal. Suck a stick after meals or dilute half a teaspoon of powder in half a glass of water. Green clay powder provides a soothing gastric barrier otherwise.
If symptoms persist, seek medical attention.
