A survey of 1,470 Dutch adults by Vakantie.nl and GezondheidsNet.nl reveals many let loose last summer. Nearly half reported gaining a few kilos, mainly to savor their holidays.
Factors included more dining out, alcoholic drinks, snacks, ice cream, larger meals, and irregular routines, resulting in 1 to 5 kilos extra weight. Physical activity held steady—45% maintained pre-summer levels, while a third increased theirs.
Strikingly, 97% of respondents are determined to shed the extra pounds post-summer. For three-quarters, embracing a healthy lifestyle is the preferred path.
A small minority plans no changes, citing budget constraints, low motivation, injuries, personal issues, or satisfaction with their bodies.
