For prescription medications, pharmacists evaluate requests individually after a detailed interview to weigh the risks of dispensing versus withholding. Is the drug essential or urgent, such as for hypertension, diabetes, or asthma? They may contact your primary physician for approval or check records at your regular pharmacy. However, dispensing isn't guaranteed—pharmacists bear full responsibility. Birth control pills are often approved, though some decline (as is their right), while others require at least an expired prescription.
This free service, available at most French pharmacies, is set up using your Vitale card. Equipped pharmacists can access your file nationwide to confirm prior prescriptions, significantly boosting your chances of obtaining the medication.
