Our cozy homes are tempting, but experts urge us to venture out regularly. According to Dr. Saldmann, a sedentary lifestyle first leads to a rapid decline in physical fitness. Hours without movement or exercise promote weight gain. Stress and anxiety often trigger unhealthy snacking on calorie-dense foods that store easily but burn off slowly. "We gain weight because intake continues—we keep eating—but there's no expenditure since we aren't moving," explains the doctor. Another key issue is disrupted sleep. Limited exposure to natural light throws off our circadian rhythm, leading to insomnia or trouble falling asleep.

The Mental Health Toll
