On France 2's 4 Vérités, Health Minister Olivier Véran announced free contraception for all women under 25. Previously available free for minors (IUDs and pills), this expands to all methods starting January 1, 2022, helping women—especially students—avoid skipping care due to costs.
Minister Véran outlined the details: "There will be coverage for hormonal contraception, associated lab tests, prescriptions, and all related care up to age 25." Students and young women can access everything needed without out-of-pocket expenses. The policy takes effect January 1, 2022.
The limit aligns with greater independence, when many leave family health plans, and studies show high rates of contraception abandonment due to cost below this age. "There's a drop-off among young women, mainly financial—it's unacceptable," Véran emphasized. This brings real relief to those previously priced out.
