While it might seem like an old-fashioned ritual, sipping chamomile tea regularly could be a powerful way to boost longevity in women. A compelling study published in The Gerontologist highlights chamomile's potential to lower fatal health risks.
This research, led by experts at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, drew from an epidemiological study of 1,677 Hispanic adults over age 65 living in the southern U.S. states.
The findings are remarkable: Regular chamomile tea drinkers saw a 29% reduced risk of death among women. Notably, no such benefit was observed in men. Bret Howrey, a study co-author, suggests this may stem from women's greater familiarity with herbal infusions.
Chamomile's benefits aren't new— a 2008 study also linked it to significant reductions in diabetes risk. Next time someone ribs you for your bedtime tea, share the science!
