We all crave junk food, but hate the health consequences. Researchers at the University of Exeter have created FoodT, a smartphone game called Food Training, designed to retrain your brain and reduce those cravings. Just 10 minutes a day could help you shed pounds.
To score points, pick healthy foods from a screen full of options. It's straightforward, yet playing daily reprograms your brain to instinctively favor nutritious choices. Over time, FoodT shifts associations: vegetables and fruits become linked to pleasure, overriding the dopamine rush from burgers, hot dogs, and other junk foods. As reported by The Telegraph, this counters the brain's reward system tied to unhealthy eats.
A preliminary study found 83 out of 100 players cut daily calories by an average of 220. Plus, the app is fully customizable, letting you define your junk foods. Currently free on the Google Play Store (iOS version in development). Ready to try it?
