Researchers at the Royal Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Australia, as reported by the Telegraph, have identified cinnamon as a powerful ally for digestion. In their study, they incorporated the spice into pigs' diets, yielding swift results: cinnamon lowered carbon dioxide levels in the animals' stomachs, reducing body temperature and enhancing overall health.
Cinnamon reduces gastric acid secretion, cooling the stomach by up to 2°C during digestion. Lead researcher Professor Kouroush Kalantar-Zadeh notes that it also safeguards the stomach and intestinal walls. These findings apply to humans as well. "The cinnamon tree possesses potent therapeutic effects due to its anti-inflammatory properties. As an antioxidant, it neutralizes free radicals that can disrupt bodily balance," explains the professor.
Prior research from a California medical university has similarly shown cinnamon's potential to enhance learning abilities.
With these evidence-based benefits, consider sprinkling cinnamon into your routine—perhaps in a warm holiday hot chocolate!
