If you're pregnant, think twice about your coffee habit. A new U.S. study published in the journal Fertility and Sterility reveals that drinking more than two cups daily significantly raises miscarriage risk. Researchers reviewed data from 501 couples, zeroing in on 344 where the woman conceived, and examined factors like smoking, coffee intake, and multivitamin use.
Of those 344 women, 98 sadly miscarried. Risks were higher for mothers aged 35 and older, but moderate caffeine consumption emerged as another key factor increasing miscarriage odds.

These findings align with prior research. A 2013 Scandinavian study involving 60,000 pregnant women showed that two cups a day (200 mg caffeine) heightens the chance of low birth weight. Current international guidelines permit up to three cups (300 mg), but experts are now reconsidering these limits.
