Mindfulness Meditation: A Proven Strategy to Reduce Migraine Frequency and Severity

Struggling with frequent migraines? Leading British researchers recommend Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)—a blend of meditation and yoga—as a powerful tool to manage these attacks.

In a study of 19 migraine patients, 10 participants engaged in MBSR sessions for up to 45 minutes, five times a week. The other nine received only standard medication.

Less Intense and Shorter Migraines

The results were clear: MBSR participants experienced significantly less painful migraines (1.4 fewer on average) and shorter durations. Neurobiology researcher Rebecca Erwin Wells explained, "Participants in the MBSR program were found to have significantly less painful migraines (1.4 fewer migraines) and shorter duration," noting their enhanced symptom control.

Researchers plan to test these effects in a larger population sample. For now, MBSR offers a promising, evidence-based option for migraine relief.
