Gym Pet Peeves: Women Most Annoyed by Smelly Workout Partners, Survey Finds

A rewarding hour of exercise often comes with frustrations for many. A recent survey reveals that a quarter of women are primarily irritated by odorous fellow gym-goers.

Offensive Gym Habits
Conducted by Spiroflor Sport Warm with over 1,000 Dutch participants, the study highlights key annoyances. Women frequently cite smelly athletes as a top issue, while men are more bothered by those showing off. Additionally, 25% of respondents deem bare midriffs unacceptable (22% specifically), along with high-rise white sports socks and skipping a sports bra.

Is Running Tough on Your Skin?

Despite these gripes, most Dutch people enjoy group workouts. However, 44% prefer exercising solo. Notably, women favor weekdays for sessions, whereas men train more consistently across weekdays and weekends.

Top Motivations for Exercise
The Dutch primarily work out to improve fitness (62%) and boost mood (52%). Social connections motivate 19%, and for one-third of women, weight loss is a key driver.
