Daily Fried Food Intake Raises Premature Death Risk by Up to 13%, Major Study Reveals

Fried foods like KFC's signature chicken are tempting, but research shows they pose serious health risks beyond weight gain. A landmark study from the University of Iowa and University of Washington links regular consumption—even small daily portions—to heightened chances of early mortality, diabetes, heart disease, and obesity.

The study tracked 100,000 postmenopausal women aged 50-79 who completed Women's Health Initiative (WHI) questionnaires between 1993 and 1998. Researchers followed them until February 2017, during which 31,588 passed away: 9,000 from heart issues, over 8,000 from cancer, and more than 13,000 from other causes.

Risks Increase by 7% to 13%

Analyzing intake of fried chicken, fried fish, and French fries while accounting for lifestyle factors, the team found daily servings significantly elevate mortality risks. One daily serving of fried chicken boosts overall death risk by 13% (7% for fried fish) and cardiovascular death risk by 12% (13% for fried fish). Prioritize moderation for better health in 2019 and beyond.
