Exclusive Interview: Christelle Chapteuil, Synadiet President, on Food Supplements' Growth and Future

Exclusive interview with Christelle Chapteuil, President of Synadiet (National Union of Food Supplements), sharing her expert insights on the rising popularity of food supplements and their health benefits.

– Can you tell us about Synadiet (Syndicat National des Compléments Alimentaires), its missions, and commitments?
C.C.: Created in 1950, Synadiet unites 240 companies across the food supplement production chain. It represents the sector with French and European authorities, promotes food supplements in health strategies, and collaborates with scientific and medical experts. Synadiet also guides and trains members on regulations, fostering responsible industry growth.

– The food supplements market is booming in France. How do you explain this?
C.C.: The market has grown steadily for over a decade, driven by growing public awareness of health maintenance, preference for natural solutions that respect the body and environment, and a shift from routine drug use toward traditional, meaningful products for non-pathological needs. Plant-based products lead this trend.

– Between food and medicine: What is the true role of food supplements?
C.C.: Food supplements support prevention and health maintenance, not replacing balanced nutrition or medical treatments. They address everyday discomforts like joint issues—not diseases but real nuisances—and meet specific needs during seasons like winter or life stages like growth.

– What is the future of the food supplements market?
C.C.: With consumer trends favoring natural, local products and health focus, the market will expand. Scientific advances will enhance quality and structure. It will become the go-to prevention tool for long-term wellness, enabling health professionals to offer gentle options before medications.
