Study Links Sparkling Water to Increased Hunger and Potential Weight Gain

As we noted recently, sugary sodas harm health by driving weight gain and elevating bad cholesterol through added sugars and sweeteners. A new study from West Bank researchers now suggests sparkling water may have similar effects, by stimulating appetite and promoting overeating.

A Straightforward Experiment

To investigate, the team tested both rats and 20 human volunteers, measuring levels of ghrelin—the key appetite-stimulating hormone—after drinking sparkling water. Results showed participants and rats were on average 20% hungrier than those who drank still water. If you're focused on weight management, consider limiting sparkling water or consuming it in moderation.
