Dogs: Proven to Reduce Stress and Anxiety in Children, Study Finds

Dogs truly are man's best friend. Beyond preventing allergies, boosting social appeal, detecting cancers, fostering connections, and even helping with chores like loading the dishwasher, they offer powerful stress relief.

A study published in Preventing Chronic Disease, led by researchers at Bassett Medical Center in the US, shows that growing up with a dog significantly lowers stress and anxiety in children. The team tracked the well-being of 643 children aged 4 to 10 over 18 months.

Key finding: Among the 58% of children who owned a dog, just 12% exhibited anxiety symptoms—compared to 21% of those without a furry companion. "Interaction with a friendly dog reduces cortisol levels, which in turn dampens physiological stress responses," the researchers noted.

These insights make a compelling case for welcoming a dog into the family. Ready to experience the benefits?
