If you're on the contraceptive pill and concerned about renewing your prescription during lockdown, there's no need to worry: "The right of women to control their own bodies is fundamental and must not be compromised during a health crisis," states Marlène Schiappa, France's Secretary of State for Gender Equality, in an official press release.
Women can now obtain their contraceptive pill directly from pharmacies without a doctor's new prescription—simply present an existing one to receive your supply. Treatment is reimbursed under standard conditions.
This measure comes from a decree published in France's Official Journal on March 15, enabling pharmacies to dispense chronic disease treatments, including contraceptives, until May 31.
Per the French Institute for Demographic Studies (INED), the pill remains France's leading contraceptive: 35% of women aged 15-49 used it in 2018; 25% opted for IUDs and 16% for condoms.
