While COVID-19 is well-known for respiratory issues, fever, and loss of taste or smell, emerging evidence points to skin manifestations like hives, chilblain-like lesions, and redness. The National Syndicate of Dermatologists-Venereologists (SNDV) has issued an urgent alert via press release, highlighting these potential cutaneous signs of infection.
"We have observed a distinctive phenomenon in some patients: acrosyndromes resembling chilblains on the extremities—redness in the fingers, swelling, and temporary pain akin to what occurs during cold-weather winter sports. This sign often goes unnoticed," explains Luc Sulimovic, MD, President of the SNDV.
"Analysis of numerous cases reported to the SNDV indicates these skin events may be linked to COVID-19," states the press release. "We urge the public and healthcare professionals to recognize these signs for early detection of potentially contagious individuals, even without respiratory symptoms."
