Is 'Winter Vagina' Syndrome Real? What Experts Say

As winter sets in and temperatures drop, lip balm becomes a daily essential tucked into our bags. Dry skin, chapped lips, and rough hands are familiar winter complaints. But can cold weather also trigger vaginal dryness—a phenomenon some call 'winter vagina' syndrome? Leading experts offer differing views on this intimate health concern.

Winter Vagina: Myth or Reality?

Midwife and nurse Mary Burke notes that vaginas may face heightened dryness risks in winter. "Although it's rarely discussed openly, our vaginas can suffer from dryness during winter," she shared with The Sun. Key factors? Chilly outdoor temperatures, steamy hot baths, layered clothing for warmth, and dry indoor heating.

Yet OB-GYN Jen Gunter, author of The Vagina Bible, pushes back strongly. "This is yet another tactic to make women feel inadequate and drive product sales. There's a whole industry devoted to it," she told Refinery29. The vagina thrives across all seasons with proper, consistent care—no seasonal exceptions needed.
