How Excessive Wine Drinking Can Damage Your Skin: Evidence from a Major Dermatology Study

During summer getaways, wine is a go-to refreshment—savored at lunch on the terrace, by the pool in the late afternoon, or at sunset. Whether sweet, crisp, bold, oaky, or fruity, it's a staple for many. However, moderation is key. A study published in the Journal of The American Academy of Dermatology reveals potential skin risks from overindulgence. Researchers tracked 83,000 women from 1991 to 2005, analyzing how alcohol intake affected their skin health.

Not-So-Reassuring Findings

The study found that 5,000 participants developed chronic rosacea—persistent facial redness. Consuming more than five glasses of wine per week raised the rosacea risk by 49%. Wine also contributes to dilated surface blood vessels, comedones (facial pimples), and a dull complexion. Consider switching to fresh homemade fruit juices for vibrant, healthy skin.
