Shocking 3D Scan Reveals COVID-19's Devastating Impact on Human Lungs

Images often speak louder than words, especially when illustrating the urgent need for containment measures. Researchers at George Washington University Hospital have created a compelling 3D virtual reality video based on a real patient's CT scan, vividly demonstrating COVID-19's severe lung damage.

This 1-minute-40-second 3D visualization comes directly from the scanner of a 60-year-old patient already in intensive care.

"You don't need to be a doctor to understand these images"

In the rib cage scan, the lungs appear green and even yellowish—colors signifying diseased tissue. Dr. Keith Mortman, Chief of Thoracic Surgery at George Washington Hospital, explains: "You don't need to be a doctor to understand these images." As reported by Le Parisien, "There is such a stark contrast between the infected lung and adjacent healthy tissue. By observing this, the public can grasp the extent of the damage—it's not isolated to one area but diffused across both lungs."
